My mission is to proofread your text to enable your intended readers to enjoy your work without being distracted by those little errors that jump off the page.
Why Hire A Professional Proofreader?
Impress your readers. A professional and reliable proofreader is capable of spotting those hidden errors that you have read on numerous occasions, but you have not noticed because you have read what you expected to see.
No matter how experienced you are as a writer it is very easy to miss hidden errors when proofreading your own work. A proofreader will notice those errors and highlight and correct them for you, enabling you to finalise your written work.
Feedback is provided using Track Changes in a word document or Comment tools in a PDF document. Reasons are always provided and it is your decision as to whether you accept or reject the changes.
You need to be confident that you have taken care in ensuring that your work has the minimum of errors. There is never any guarantee of 100% accuracy in any text but you, and the proofreader, will have aimed to achieve this.
It is important that your written work is checked thoroughly. Enough time will be allowed to ensure this. It will be agreed between the writer and the proofreader the expected completion date of the project and you will always be kept up-to-date with the progress.

About Proofreading Magpie
Hi, I’m Jan Boulton
I offer UK English proofreading to small businesses, website and blog owners, students, charities, indie authors, and to individuals who have bespoke projects. I’m a lover of words, who just cannot help finding those niggling errors when reading – from business reports to brochures, menus to manuscripts and websites of every kind.
Having worked in the public sector for many years, I gained a wealth of skills and knowledge in delivering high quality documents within strict deadlines including:
- Proofreading pre-sentence reports at the Probation Service for magistrates’ court and Crown Court.
- Proofreading assessments, policies and other documents for the local National Health Service (NHS).
- Teaching ECDL to students, including teachers in the local community, whilst working as a tutor in a local college.

- Line spacing
- Sequencing (page numbers, bullet points etc.)
- Stacked hyphens
- Homonyms, homophones and homographs
- Widows, orphans and short lines

How much will it cost?
I do not have a fixed price, but if you send me a sample of your work (between 300 and 500 words) I will be able to provide you with further details. The price will depend on how complex your work is, the word count and the timescale. You must contact me in order to get an estimated price.
Will I have to pay a deposit?
If you decide to proceed with my service, I will send you an invoice for the deposit (see Terms & Conditions) and book you in to my schedule. I will also confirm the latest date that I require a copy of your writing.
Will I get any feedback?
The type of feedback will depend on the type of project, but this will always be provided using Track Changes in word documents or Comment tools in a PDF document. You will also receive a ‘clean’ copy for word documents.
Terms & Conditions
Ready to get started?
- Word count of your project
- Type of document e.g. business report, assignment, ebook, website
- Turnaround – how quickly do you want this?
- A sample of your work (300 to 500 words)
- Confirmation that it has or has not been copy-edited
Once I have received a sample of your work I will be able to provide a quote that reflects the level of proofreading required. If your work has gone through the various stages of publication then it should be a relatively basic proofread. However, if it is a complex piece of work, and you are only having this proofread, then the proofreading could be more substantial and take longer to complete.
